Photos from 29th Annual Arbor Day Celebration
A Big Thank You! To all the volunteers, partners and District K staff that made Houston’s 29th Annual Arbor Day tree planting event a great one! 400 trees were planted today in the esplanades of Hiram-Clark Road, West Orem Drive, and Buffalo Speedway.
Today’s event was a celebration of successful tree plantings held all across Houston during the Arbor Day Season (running from October 2014 – February 2015). Over 10,000 trees were planted during this tree planting season – fulfilling all SNAP requests for trees that have been submitted by citizens from all across the city.
This Arbor Day celebration also marked the 29th Year that Houston was honored with the designation of “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to its Urban Forest.
Special thanks to our partners: The Houston Parks and Recreation Department, The Apache Corporation, Trees For Houston, The Texas A&M Forest Service, TXU Energy, the Scotts Miracle Grow Company and Keep Houston Beautiful. Volunteers for today’s tree planting included: District K residents, Madison High School, ILM academy, New Faith Church scouts, and KIPP Liberation.
